Uttara

Uttara was the princess and pride of the kingdom of Birat. She was taught singing and dancing by Arjun who was disguised as a woman. Uttara leaves with the Pandavas to become the wife of Abhimanyu. Uttara and Abhimanyu were very in love. She was devastated when she found out that Abhimanyu had become the general for the Pandavas. She reluctantly agreed to let him fight in the battle, and helped him get ready for battle. When she went to tell Subhadra the news, she fell to the ground lifeless. Uttara was motivated to get up when she remembered she is supposed to have Abhimanyu's son. Abhimanyu dies as he cries his wife's name. When Uttara found out about Abhimanyu's death, she fainted. Uttara begs to be able to join her husband, but the whole family encourages her to stay strong and have faith. Even after her son was born, she wanted to do a funeral pyre. Krishna tells her that she can't because she has a son who needs to be cared for. She had proven herself to be the best mother for staying her on earth to do her duty to her son.

Uttara is said to "play" a lot and is pictured with dolls and toys, which makes me curious about how old she is.

Sati

Sati was the favorite daughter of her mother, Daksha Rani. Sati wished to marry Siva, the beggar-god, which made her father very upset. Despite her father's anger, she refused to marry anyone else and eventually married Siva. Sati lived for her husband alone and her life was full of joy. Daksha was having a great yagma, but didn't invite Sati and Siva. Sati saw her sisters and they encouraged her to go, but she informed them she wasn't invited. Sati convinces Siva to let her go to the yagma, even though she doesn't have an invitation. Siva thinks this is a bad idea, but eventually gives in to Sati's begging. When Siva returned to the cottage, he felt like it wasn't as bright and lively without Sati. As Sati rode to the yagma, she ran into a husband and wife that wished to dress her in beautiful clothes and jewels, so she lets them. Upon her arrival, Sati's sisters became jealous of her beautiful outfit and her greeting from her mother, so they went to tell their father she was there when she shouldn't be. Her father yells at her, which made Sati enraged and she died (?). She also case a spell on her father. When Siva heard the devastating news, he returned to Daksha Raj's kingdom to find Sati. Vishnu cut up Sati's body and placed the pieces all over the world. The places where the pieces landed become holy. Siva returned to cave and meditated about his eternal love for Sati until he can be reunited with her again.
